The New Social Media

If you want to get someone to pay attention to your post, say something counter to conventional thinking with some loose reasoning to back it up. Hashtag it as a "hot take."

If you want to make something seem evil, put "Big" in front of it: Big Data, Big Honey, Big Pizza, Big Hair. They're now evil.

You can also inflate the purpose of your business. If you're business sells feathers, you're not selling feathers. You're "reshaping the feather industry." Big Feather.

This is the new social media. Attention-grabbing posts will little substantive content. Don't fall in this trap. Your social media presence is such a big opportunity to talk about your business, showcase your knowledge, and share your company's culture.

Share success but don't exaggerate it. If you want an award, share it. It's fact and it's OK to take a victory lap. If you're company has a friendly internal rivalry between dog and cat lovers, post a work break about it. If you're launching a new product, blow the horn.

The point is to stick to facts on your social media. They can be business or fun facts. They can be big announcements or just interesting pieces of information. It shows integrity and will stick in the consumers' minds much better.
